I’m leaving for Air Force BMT at the end of April and this is the only medication I will be granted to take. I usually use a cream for acne and cannot have that. Any recommendations on a BC that works best for acne and does not promote weight gain?

Answer:
Last I heard, Ortho Tri-Cyclen & Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo are the 2 FDA-approved products for acne control.

Generally, since most birth controls have similar active ingredients (but with different strengths), logically, they should all be able to help with your acne problem if the underlying cause of your acne is hormonal.

If you're worried about weight gain, you could try Ocella - generic for Yasmin. This medication contains drospirenone (progestin) and studies have shown that this BC has helped w/ weight lost (instead of weight gain that most other BC cause)

However, be aware that drospirenone will also increase your potassium level - you should NOT take any form of this medication if you’ve kidney, liver, and/or adrenal diseases.
Speak to your physician about the best BC choice that will work for you for acne control.

Lastly, know that there are other causes of acne - if the underlying cause of your acne is bacterial or some other sources, BC might not work very well for you.

Answer:
I have been on Zovia (bc pill) for about a year now, and it is supposed to help clear your skin. I am almost 23, and I still break out as much as I ever did (fairly bad). So, different pills work differently on different women, I guess. It's a hit or miss thing.
