I’ll be going to the dermatologist on Thursday for my mild/moderate acne that has been a problem for about 7 years now (I'm 20 now). This isn’t my first visit to the dermatologist but I would like to know what has helped other people so I can maybe do a tiny research before I go in on Thursday to discuss it with my physician. Please don't suggest Proactiv, I tried it and it was the worst mistake I ever made, and it isn't a prescription anyway. Thanks for any suggestions!

Answer:
My dermatologist prescribed two creams for me:

Benzaclin Gel in the morning and Tazorac Cream at night.

Together, these creams work very well and have definitely reduced my acne significantly.

I personally used this product called Acne free. It's like Proactiv so you probably won't use that but I just want to throw that out there for you. I work at a pharmacy and I see a lot of prescriptions for retin A, benzaclin which is benzamycin and clindamycin, cleocin T lotion or solution, differen cream or gel, and sometimes dermatologists will give you an antibiotic to go along with a topical like minocycline 25-100mg or clindamycin. They’ll try killing everything from the inside-out before they go to the extreme of giving you Accutane. Accutane is a very potent and potentially perilous. It takes time, trust me, for your blemishes to totally go away. The thing about proactiv and Acne free is that it takes a few weeks for it to show results. The first two weeks are suppose to be real bad before it gets superior. It contains benzoyl peroxide that will kill and bring all the acne to the surface quicker and that’s why you’ll notice them become severe the first two weeks. Acne is will surface normally about two weeks so the medication just expedited its surfacing. Since you’re not interested in proactiv, let your dermatologist know because he/she might begin you off with 5-10% benzoyl peroxide and that is what proactiv is. Good luck hon…it will get better. Just make sure you do as the dermatologist say religiously and don’t give up sooner than when the medication kicks in. =)

Answer:
any form of retinol (retin-a micro/Tazorac) be careful when are using prescription acne medicine it makes your skin very sensitive and if u wax u need to stop using it a week or two in advance to prevent lifting of your skin. also u will need to protect your skin with a sunscreen.Accutane is very very harsh on your body and the side affects are way worse than acne plus it is very hard to get a prescription for it unless u have very severe acne and it is usually physicians last resource.Your derm will tell u all of this tho. good luck! Here’s some stuff u could read

Answer:
Try Accutane. Only try it if you’re not trying to have kids for the next couple of years. It causes major deformities. But since you're only 20, I'd recommend it. The downside is that it dries out your skin on your arms and lips, but your face looks great after maybe the first month. You'll start to see results in about 2 weeks. Stay lubed up on your lips and hydrate your skin with Vaseline. Drink lots of water. Good luck!
