OK, so I have really bad acne, and this lowers my self-esteem levels. I’m bipolar ( don't make fun!) so this is very bad. Do any of you have a remedy for treating acne?

Answer:
For acne, there are a number of remedies that might help your skin moderately.

But for really bad acne (assuming that your acne is indeed really bad) I highly highly suggest Accutane. It always works and it works absolutely for everyone. I used it. With Accutane you'll have clear skin forever after a couple of months!

You can easily waste years of your life with bad acne trying a million and one prescription or over the counter drugs that don't work or only work partially.

Go see a dermatologist. He'll initially try to give you other medications, but he'll let you get Accutane once the other drugs don't work or have limited effectiveness.

If you've already tried other remedies, you should be able to convince him to go right to Accutane.

Be careful of antibiotics–if you're on them a long time, you increase your resistance to antibiotics when you're really sick and they permanently stain your teeth yellow.

Also, don't really trust your dermatologist. He's just happy to write you a couple prescriptions, won't remember if your skin is superior or worse than before, and doesn't really care if you’ve clear skin. At least that’s my experience with about 10 different dermatologists.

The downside to Accutane is that’s can cause birth defects if you get pregnant while taking it. There are also a couple other side effects, like depression, but in my opinion these side effects are overrated.

If you have any questions, I'll be happy to help.

Answer:
The tricky part about acne is that the problem can actually become worse if you overmedicate. That's because acne medication can overdry the skin, causing a boost in your skin's Sebum (oil) production. This results in…you guessed it - more acne.

So what's the long term solution? Find gentler solutions or even natural acne cures that won't shock your body into more breakouts. Here's what I recommend:

- Use a glycerin based facewash. Glycerin is gentler and will balance the ph levels in your skin.

- For body acne, try using an antibacterial soap to slowly dry out the skin. If your skin gets too dry, switch to a moisterizing soap like Dove to counterbalance the effect.

- Wash your face only 2 times a day max and gently pat dry with a towel.

- Use a gentle face moisterizer if the glycerin based face wash drys you out too much.

- Eat almonds, fiber, drink lots of water and avoid excess sugar intake.

- If acne medication isn't working or causing new breakouts, try applying egg whites to the pimples at night before bed. This natural remedy works great.

- One of my favorite natural skin conditioners is wearing an “oatmeal mask”. The oatmeal with smooth your skin while simultaneously absorb toxins and oils from your pores.

- You may hear some people state that toothpaste is a natural acne remedy. It's true that this can work. However, it's really the alcohol in some toothpastes that make the pimples go away. You're superior off foregoing the toothpaste and simply apply a dab of rubbing alcohol on a pimple after you pop it. The rubbing alcohol will kill bacteria and prevent further infection.

- Rubbing lemon juice on a pimple will also make it go away. The acidity of the lemon will dry out the clogged pore and balance the ph levels in your skin.

Answer:
i don't have a remedy, but i have some mild acne so i went to the dermatologist who provided me with proscribed medication samples to use. any acne treatment takes consistant use over a period of a few weeks, so make sure that you use anything you try for about two weeks before switching to something new. also don't over use acne treatments because then your skin will get overly dry and unhealthy. you can also try using a daily face wash to help clean your skin.

Acne diet

Acne : Home Remedies suggested by users

All-fruit Acne diet

To begin with, the patient should take only an 'all-fruit' diet for a week, taking three meals a day, of fresh juicy fruits, such as apples, pears, grapes, grapefruit, pineapples, and peaches. Only unsweetened lemon or plain water, either hot or cold, should be drunk and nothing else.

Well-balanced Acne diet

After the one-week, all-fruit diet, the patient can gradually adopt a well-balanced diet with emphasis on raw foods, especially fresh fruit and vegetables, sprouted seeds, raw nuts, and wholegrain cereals, particularly millet and brown rice. Further short periods of the 'all-fruit' diet for three days or so might be necessary at a monthly interval till the skin's condition improves.

Avoid strong tea/coffee, soft drinks and processed foods

Meats, sugar, strong tea or coffee, condiments, pickles, soft drinks, candies, ice cream, refined and processed foods should be avoided as far as possible.

Other Acne natural treatments

Warm-water enema

During the initial one week 'all-fruit' diet, a warm-water enema taken daily cleanses the bowels. Apply hot fomentation locally to open up the pores and to bring out the waste matter. Then rinse the affected parts with cold water.

Hot Epsom salts bath

A hot Epsom salts bath twice a week is beneficial in all cases of acne. This bath is prepared by adding 1 ½ kg of Epsom salts to 60 litres of water having a temperature of about 37.8° C. The patient should remain in the bath tub for 25-35 minutes till he sweats freely. After the bath, the patient should cool off gradually.
